Dibakar Banerjee proves it yet another time with "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy" which comes with brilliant presentation of the story with equally supportive cinematography. Worth a watch & we eagerly would want to see its next installment soon.

Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola: Movie Review

Cast: Pankaj Kapur, Imran Khan, Anushka Sharma, Shabana Azmi, Arya Babbar

Director: Vishal Bhardwaj

Genre: Comedy Drama

For the first time when I heard this name I felt it might be a movie related to our pre-independence freedom movements, and after coming out watching this movie I can very well say I found the revolution within, though not related to our pre-independence.

Vishal Bharadwaj is one such guy who constantly tries giving us something different, may it be a flick or a flop he keeps on trying. This time he delivers a political satire where the story revolves around a present day village of Haryana where industrialization is the main swing due to the growing appetite of the few upper class, forgetting the sufferings of the poor farmers for whom their land is the only source of livelihood. For the peoples who like the normal Bollywood formula movies and love stories, this one might not be very compelling or engaging but the intellectual mass would definitely take back something home. I would not say the movie is superbly made, it has its own flaws and loop holes in between, but at the end of the day most of you would walk out happily after watching this. Its a mad, mad film and a breeze of freshness among the series of brainless comedies we have seen in the recent past.

Here Matru, Bijlee and Mandola are three characters from this movie, where Matru (Imran Khan) is a village chap, Mandola (Pankaj Kapur) a business tycoon and Bijlee (Anuskha Sharma) his one and only daughter. Imran manages carrying his rustic Haryanvi look well and did justice to his role to prove that he has also got the spark to make it to the top. Anuskha as always is like the girl next door. She is good with her peppy role but I think we have seen this kind of Anuskha in lot of the movies by now and would like to see her doing something different to show her versatility. But it is Pankaj Kapoor who takes away the cream from the cake with his superb performance. He is brilliant as always and had truly out played others in this movie. he is the main driving force behind this comical political drama. Apart from the 3 title characters the others also did justice to the shoes they were in. Shabana Azmi was just perfect in delivering her wicked part and Arya Babar was also able to make himself notice. Hey wait ... how could we miss out another major character, Gulabo. I will not speak much about her but she is for sure one good reason to watch this movie.

The strength of this movie is the fresh concept, the strong performance and its presentation. The dialogues were good with a rustic village touch to it though at times it might be difficult to grasp if you don’t listen them keenly. On the negative, the story at times drags a bit and that could have been managed by ignoring few of the songs which appears suddenly without much need for them. I could not understand why there was a reason for the African tribes to be part of this movie. They seemed completely confused and unnecessary to me.

On the whole Vishal has incredibly crafted this movie and has done a job for which he needs some applause. Though it had some scope of improvement, its a must watch for those who want to experience something different and for others if you can digest some of the negativity, I could say it can very well be a one time watch for you.

Agneepath: Movie Review

Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor & Om Puri

Director: Karan Malhotra

Genre: Action Drama

"Vijay Dinanath Chahuan", the name in itself is big for Bollywood and for every movie lover related to that era. After 22 years he is back again with the same vengeance in his eyes, to prove it yet again that this name can never be forgotten!

Its almost a remake of the previous one, though its not an exact copy but still revolves around the same story line with few alterations here and there with the characters and incidents happening within. The director has managed well to produce the same dish with different garnishing keeping in mind the taste of the current audience.

The movie runs for around 2 hour 50 minutes but still keeps you engaging for most of the part due to its fast pace and powerful performances. Almost everyone is able to deliver there part well in the movie. Before the film hitting the theater, there were lots of gossips and speculation of Hrithik stepping into the shoes of Big B and being able to do justice to this powerful name. Take my words, he did it and delivered it powerfully in his own way. He is different from the previous, the way he walks, stares, delivers his dialogues, fights his opponents, but yet manages to maintain the trends set earlier. "Vijay Dinanath Chahuan" is never complete without "Kancha" and this time its played by none other then Sanju Baba. He does a great justice to his character and takes it up to a new level with his fearsome looks and superb dialogue delivery. Rishi Kappor as Lala was awesome and was nice to see him playing a negative role with such an ease. Though Priyanka didn't have much to do but was good in delivering her parts and the way she is portrayed reminds me of her role in Kaminey (Sahid Kapoor fame). Wait! how could we forget Chameli (Katrina Kaif), it might just be an item number for 5 minutes but was like salt and pepper on top of the actual dish!

On the neagatives, for some the length of the movie might bite a bit and also proper representation of human emotion was missing at places. For those who have watched the previous one, are definitely going to miss "Krishnan Iyer" (Mithun Chakraborty) with this one.

It's a story of revenge and is shot beautifully with gala action sequences which acts as the driving force for this movie. Comparison is obvious but you could enjoy it more once you stop comparing each and every part of this movie with the previous one. Songs are melodious and are better when you watch them on screen with Chikni Chameli almost being able to set fire on the stage.

On a whole, its a grand movie with lots of revenge and action in it and making it a movie for almost all segments of audiances. If you think whats new in the story, go watch it and you will definitely get a refreshing experience by the time you come out of the theater!

Players: Movie Review

Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Bobby Deol, Omi Vaidya, Sikander Kher, Bipasha Basu, Sonam Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Johnny Lever

Director: Abbas Mustan

Genre: Action Thriller

Desi version of "Italian Job", and its made by none other than Abbas Mustan, our very own thriller specialist. A bunch of people who are out for Gold in Russia, manages in stealing it, betrayed by one of their partner and tries to hunt him down in NewZealand. Quite a lot!

But did it manage in delivering what we expected? Its a big NO! Where are the twists and the turns which we expect from the duos? Its just like any other average movie which lacks in every department, may it be in script, acting, dialogue, screenplay, chemistry between the lead actors, huuhhh ... its difficult to count now. The movie lost its pace from the beginning and somehow managed to generate some before the interval but alas lost it again 20 - 25 minutes post interval. It just kept on dragging till end with some repeated dialogues, predictable scenes and immature acting.

The acting department is quite shaky with just Spider (Neil Nitin) executing his part well. He is growing as an actor with each and every movie that passes by, few more good ones and he can make it up to some good heights within the industry. Abhishek might look just average for most and for the peoples who do not like him much might vision him below average in this movie. Bipasha was okay in her performance but with her hot and well chiseled body she would definitely make the boys drop their jaws. On the same lines, Sonam apart from looking pretty was weak playing her part, Omi was good but didn't get much support from the script, Vinod Khanna seems to be confused, Bobby was wasted and hey did any body realised about Sikander!

The movie is lost in its own story telling which keeps on stretching for about 2 hour 40 minutes with very few good things to speak about. The music is just average and so is the background score. Scenes were not well thought of before executing them within the movie and as a result of which lot many of those seems childish and unreal.

Overall its a bad start for Bollywood in 2012. The movie can be a one time watch but with your own risk and if you feel your schedules are tight, never mind skipping it!

Don 2: Movie Review

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, Lara Dutta, Om Puri, Kunal Kapoor

Director: Farhan Akhtar

Genre: Action

Is the King really back? What does audiences say when they come out after watching the 2 hour 20 minute action flick? Yes, definitely he is back and that’s the verdict of most of the audiences and even more when they start comparing it to the recent Hollywood flick Mission Impossible.

Have we ever thought of a sequel of Don in the 70's and I guess it’s a big NO for most. But Farhan dared thinking about it and that’s the reason we had a great time with its second installment as well. The movie is nicely made (though not superbly), its stylish, visually soothing, well written with couple of good dialogues to return with. It carries well from where it left the previous and the story nicely moves on from Malaysia to Berlin where Don is out for a game. The movie is not too long and has its own twists and turns to keep you engaging. I would say the second half of the movie is more enticing and would keep you on your edge.

In terms of acting, everybody had managed to get in to their shoes decently. King Khan does a great job with his shades and dialogues. Boman was good and Priyanka was average by managing to deliver what was given to her.

On the negative, the movie lacks good songs & music and adds some sudden unrealistic human feelings. Some of the action scenes could have been more better but that’s credible when it comes to Bollywood.

I would say the Don series redefines Bollywood bad guys and takes them to a level where sometime a super hero might feel a little shy in facing them. Hats off to Farhan  for  the plot & the dialogues and most importantly daring to go with this. Cheers to King Khan for getting back on track.

On the whole, Don 2 is a visual delight with a pinch of intelligence in it. The movie is definitely a watch and would be more appreciated by the section of audiences who love thrills, action, dialogues and SRK.
